Stellar on all accounts

The end of the riding season feels like it came so soon, so in the spirit of good fun and my obvious love of the mountains my friend Lex and I toured on over to Lake Louise for a day of stellar turns and ice cold beers.  We arrived early, being the keeners we are when it comes to this sort of thing, and to our desire we stumbled upon a bluebird day and fresh powder!  The day was perfect, slicing through some great snow and having the time of our lives.  After a few hours of riding back side, we swung around to the front, where to our surprise live music had set up shop on the deck of the front lodge.  We causally sauntered in, grabbed a much needed pitcher and took a seat up front.  Introduce Stellar Radio Choir, a 3 piece rock band reminiscent of all that I love about good old 70′s rock and roll.  Their vintage vibe had the whole deck 100% entertained and craving more.  Lex and I made a point of talking to the boys after, as we had to let them know how having heard them play made our day go from killer to phenomenal.  The conversation took on a life of it’s own and was closely followed by an invitation to get some last minute shredding in before they hit the stage once more.  And what can I say, rock musicians who ride, I’m in!  The day progressed with more turns, drinks, and Woodstock worthy tunes.  As the day came to a close at good old Lake Louise, our new found friends invited us to join them in Golden, BC for a second show they were playing with the ever so incredible Shred Kelly (a band Lex and I had grown to love over the years of working on the mountain).  As we hummed and hawed about whether we should take the tour, the final decision ended up being the best decision we had made all weekend (and the first of many great decisions we would make that weekend).

We arrived in Golden BC with enough time to unload, clean up and head for some grub before the guys went round 2.   Post dinner went ventured over to Golden Taps where the guys set up for the night.  Getting a second dose of new music that I will have in my rotation from here on out was such a pleasure for us two music loving Betty’s.  The crowd was going nuts and well invested in the set.  It’s amazing when you get to see sheer talent at such a close up range and feel the pure love of music and what it is supposed to be.  The set concluded, the crowd went nuts and it was time for a quick shot before Shred Kelly graced the stage.  Now if you want to see a high energy, musically charged show I strongly suggest you check out a Shred Kelly show.  The band, who rocks everything from a keyboard, tambourine, banjo and harmonica alongside the classic bass, guitar, drum set, are like I said, one not to miss if given the opportunity.  As I sat back and watched the packed room go bananas and the band interact with the crowd giving off so much energy and in return getting that same amount of energy back I was reminded of all the things I love about live music.  Shred Kelly is definitely a fan favorite for the masses.

We stuck around when all was said and done, mingling with the group of new friend we were so lucky to have stumbled upon during our little girls riding trip then took the party back to the house of the bassist who resides in Golden.  The fun continued as people came and went while we sat laughing, talking and my personal favorite, listening to the sounds of C.C.R. on vinyl.  Now that’s music at its most pure.

I could not have asked for a better day with better people.
